Shikaku is Shikamaru's father and a member of Konoha's Nara clan. He was once teammates with Choza Akimichi and Inoichi Yamanaka, forming the original Ino-Shika-Cho trio. Like most Nara clan members, Shikakau practices the Shadow Imitation jutsu, technically a support type justu meant to immobilize enemies. But Shikaku has advanced his skills to the point where he can also attack the enemyusing the shadows while maintaining the jutsu. The Nara clan are also known for tending deer in a sacred forest in Konoha, the antlers from the deer can be used for various medicinal purposes.
Shikamaru shares some personality traits with his dad, who is also very intelligent but is lazy. Shikaku also may be somewhat of an alcoholic, but is kept in line by Shikamaru's mother, Yoshino Nara, who Shikamaru describes as having his dad "whipped."
