Hizashi Hyuga (ÈÕÏò¥Ò¥¶¥·, Hy¨±ga Hizashi?) was the father of Neji Hyuga and the twin brother of Hiashi Hyuga, but was born into the world seconds after his brother, which made him a branch house member. The name "Hizashi" means "sunlight" or "rays of the sun" and is specifically used to describe sunlight strong enough to cause sunburn. While he had long resented the main house, the birth of Neji brought his hate to a new level. Because Neji, a natural genius, was also a branch house member, he would never be able to realize his full potential by learning the Hyuga clan's most secret techniques. Angered by this, Hizashi began to outwardly despise the main house and it members, earning him many reprimands. When Hiashi killed a Kumogakure diplomat to save his daughter, Hinata Hyuga, Kumogakure demanded his corpse, which the Hyuga clan's elders were quick to nominate Hizashi as a replacement for.
